70 New Members. Lovely. But How Many Left?
One business mentor is celebrating a relaxed membership launch with more than 70 new sign-ups. Lovely news. Although there's one rather important number missing from the victory lap.

There's something rather lovely about a relaxed launch.
No frantic masterclass. No personal outreach. Just a bit of gamification, some WhatsApp messages and a Facebook group.
And apparently, more than 70 new members.
Champagne all round.
One well-known business mentor has been sharing the lessons from her latest membership launch, including the decision to ditch some of the activities she says would ordinarily bring in bigger numbers.
The takeaway? Not every launch needs to be a showstopper.
Fair enough.
But there's one question we'd quite like answered before we start taking notes.
How many members were there before the launch?
Because 70 new members sounds wonderful in isolation.
Seventy new members when you've retained everyone else? Fabulous.
Seventy new members when you've lost significantly more over the preceding months? Rather a different conversation.
And that's the funny thing about membership businesses. You can celebrate new sign-ups without telling anyone whether your total membership is actually growing.
There's also the rather interesting decision to change the membership's focus to money, because that's apparently what online business owners need most right now.
Which might be a brilliant commercial decision.
It does, however, raise another question about what existing members originally signed up to receive.
None of this means the launch was unsuccessful. We simply haven't been given enough information to judge.
Perhaps that's the real lesson here.
A launch announcement tells you how many people came through the door. It doesn't necessarily tell you how the business is doing.
Still, congratulations on the 70.
Logged off. Allegedly.
