What happens to this

It isn’t published. Nothing you send appears on the site automatically, or at all, until a human has read it and decided it stands up. Most tips never become posts.

Email is optional. Leave it blank and we genuinely cannot reply to you, which is the point. Fill it in only if you’re happy to be contacted.

We can’t promise legal privilege and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. If what you know is genuinely sensitive, think about whether an email address you own is the right way to send it.

If a tip becomes a story about someone identifiable, we ask them for a reply before publishing. If we get one, we print it.
